If you could eat anything you wanted, and not have to worry about gaining weight/being unhealthy/inhumane, what would you totally pig out on?
Submitted by Jay.
I would eat Poutine.
It's the very delicious combination of french fries, cheese curds and gravy. It is very delicious.
While I'm a vegetarian, I recently realized that I could have Poutine since I do eat cheese and I found that some gravies aren't made from beef, so I've occasionally been able to make Poutine.
Mmmm.
When skimming a magazine (or book or newspaper) do you flip through the pages from front to back or back to front?
Submitted by enSue.
When it comes to magazines, books or newspapers I flip from the front to the back. It's usually quite linear for me.
When do you file your taxes? Do you do it yourself or get outside help?
I do it myself online and I actually just filed them today. I use a web-based service and it's getting easier and easier each year. This time the charitable contributions that I made were able to be imported online and since I'd filed the two previous years that way I was able to import the basic information which meant that it actually a little over an hour to do the whole thing from starting to filing!
How do you handle phone calls from telemarketers?
It's tough because I know that it's not really the person who is on the phone that is the problem, but the company that they're working for. I listen to the first part of the script to let them finish and then say that I'm not interested, and then let them get through the next part of the script and say it again and then that's it.
I do answer surveys though. I'm fascinated by them and try to figure out who is paying for it and what they are trying to figure out or prove.
What is your favorite day of the week?
Saturday. It is a day filled with possibilities and I can stay up as late as I want knowing that I can sleep in on Sunday. Saturday is also a day where I can not feel bad if I don't do much.
What method do you use to prepare your coffee or tea?
Submitted by AgentBouche.
I used to use a French Press, but I've since switched to a drip coffee maker with a paper filter. I was reading about it and apparently the paper filter absorbs more of the acidic elements of the coffee. I grind my beans just before I put them in the filter. When I'm camping I grind the beans with a hand-powered grinder and use a small French Press and mug combo with water that I boil over the camp stove. It's a pain to grind the beans by hand, but it is very nice outside to have fresh coffee.
Do you buy products made locally? Is there anything made in your area that you love?
I try to buy as many local products as I can, which includes things such as eggs, fruits and vegetables, wine from the Grand Pré Winery (just down the road from Wolfville), beer and soft drinks (from the Propeller Brewing Company in Halifax), potato chips (baked down the road in Kentville), and most especially fair trade chocolate, sugar and coffee that is roasted at the Just Us! Coffee Roasters Co-op in Grand Pré. I love Propeller Bitter and their Ginger Beer and my regular coffee beans are from Just Us! as well as sugar and the occasional chocolate bar. In the Fall there are many local fruits and vegetables, especially apples, which is what the Annapolis Valley is known for.
What is your favorite kind of bagel and what do you put on it?
Submitted by Nacwolin.
A sesame seed bagel from St-Viateur Bagel in Montreal with cream cheese. Hands-down the best and my favourite.
There is nothing better than having a fresh bagel in Montreal. You can get the bagels shipped down from Montreal, which means that they are a few days old, so it's not as good as having one that is still warm from the wood oven, but it's better than not having a Montreal bagel at all.
How many bones have you broken? Yours or someone else's?
Just one, a rib when I fell in the shower. It was a pain since it hurt whenever I laughed or breathed, which are two things that I do often.
A friend of mine said that I should have made up a better story than slipping in the shower. Something along the lines of dramatically saving someone's life, but I stuck with the truth.
We know you never slack off at work, but if you did, what would you do?
I would post a reply to the Question of the Day...
